The historic village
of Lindfield is surrounded by beautiful countryside& ringed with
magnificent gardens such as Wakehurst Place (which now houses the Kew
seed bank), Nymans, Sheffield Park, & Borde Hill to name but a few.
These are an inspiration & resource for our own more modest patches.
Most of the local soil is over Wealden clay which is neutral to acid
- enough to sustain rhododendrons & other acid lovers, but there
are deep pockets of loamy soil (honestly!) which means an extremely
wide variety of plants can be grown. Our weather is predominantly influenced
by the prevailing south-westerly winds, generally mild and recently
- very dry!
(Ed. writes - We'd like to know if there are any budding metereologists
out there with all the local stats.)
