With
four hundred entries the Autumn Show packed out the main hall which
meant that the Runner Bean Race took itself off to the Library. What
do the members feed their beans on as they get longer each year? And
come to mention it how does young Ben Smith mange to grow such a mammoth
marrow? I was surprised that our photographer, Carolyn Nurse, could
fit it onto one photograph. The large number of vegetable and fruit
exhibits indicated that it has been a plentiful harvest making it difficult
to decide which was my favourite - I am glad I am not a judge!
The display
of flowers set the hall off a treat and the dahlias were so stunning
it is difficult to understand why they fell out of favour a few years
ago. Well they are certainly back with a vengeance now. Great artistry
was displayed by the flower arrangers matched by the talent shown by
the young people in the junior classes. Not to be outdone the cookery
competitors must have been locked in their kitchens for days such was
the array of mouth watering entries. This meant that I had to rush into
the tea room to partake of the homemade cakes; it is such a hard life.
