Coach Trip to Wisley 2009
(with photos by Carolyn Nurse)

Our second coach trip of the year followed the same pattern as the first in that we drove through heavy rain only for it to stop on our arrival and then become a lovely day. It was particularly interesting to view the planting around the perimeter of the new Glasshouse which had not been completed on the occasion of the Society’s previous visit. This has now matured into a most attractive area. Other highlights were the Glasshouse Borders stretching up to the Fruit Mound and the Mixed Borders leading up to Battleston Hill. The Fruit Demonstration Garden showcased many delights in which the red currant Karlstein Red caught my eye. At the other extreme the show gardens in Witan Street seemed to this visitor to be awful, and I was not alone in having this opinion! Perhaps some LHS members should be asked to redesign them?
