Trip to Titsey Place 2009
(with photos by Wendy Dumbleton)

The final LHS garden visit for 2009 was to Titsey Place and Gardens, near Oxted Surrey which was on a “self drive or have a lift” basis. This is one of those sites which is surprisingly little known but well worth visiting. Titsey is one of the largest surviving historic estates in Surrey dating back to the mid sixteenth century. Nestling under the North Downs the mansion house with its stunning garden, lakes, walled kitchen garden and park offers panoramic views, in an idyllic setting. Part of the house is open to the public and in addition to fine furniture and china includes paintings by Canaletto and Reynolds amongst others. We were able to enjoy all these facilities, including the new tea room, on a bright sunny afternoon.
